SUMMARY:
The purpose of this item is to request approval of a $5,500 business assistance grant for Sim Center Tampa Bay to fabricate and install a sign for their business at 802 Court Street. Sim Center Tampa Bay is an interactive, virtual gaming center that recently relocated from Clearwater Beach to downtown earlier this year. It serves both local residents and tourists. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the business has only recently been able to open and can only serve a few customers at a time which has resulted in limited revenue. They have requested a grant under the DDB’s business assistance program to install a sign on the building to advertise to vehicles driving by on Court Street. The applicant has submitted a funding request form and quote describing the project.
Staff recommends funding the full $5,500 grant amount and acknowledgement of the DDB’s support on the applicant’s website and either in the front window or the interior of the business. The request supports several DDB goals including supporting a business that attracts tourists, providing funding to retain a new business and will it be an example project the DDB can use to promote its grant programs. There are funds available in the current fiscal year under the Business Assistance category.
