New Marymont Park Mural
Body
SUMMARY:
Clearwater’s Marymont Park, located at 1900 Gilbert St. near Clearwater Air Park, was used as a temporary debris site for hurricane debris last year. As a result, the park was closed for several months, creating both inconvenience and an eyesore for surrounding residents.
In response, the City renovated the park and hosted a community event, which included a survey where residents selected new playground equipment and provided input on a proposed mural for the park’s restroom building. Laura Thomas, a St. Petersburg–based artist who participated as a 3D artist in the Grad Chalk Walk event, was selected for the project.
The attached designs reflect the residents’ requests for themes of nature and conservation. While the original plan was to paint only one side of the building, its visibility from multiple roads led Cultural Affairs to propose a full-building mural.
A community event will be held to celebrate the mural, featuring a “paint-by-numbers” section where residents can help paint, along with opportunities to enjoy the new playground equipment, refreshments, and other neighborhood activities.
This mural is funded by the Neighborhoods Division within the Public Communications Department.
