Approve a Special Event Grant Funding Request from Cleveland Street Market in an amount not to exceed $24,000 for the Cinco de Mayo and authorize the appropriate officials to execute same.

SUMMARY: 

The purpose of this item is to request approval of grant funding for Cinco de Mayo, an event organized by Cleveland Street Market.

Event Details:

                     Date: Monday, May 5, 2025

                     Time: 2 PM to 7 PM

                     Location: Cleveland Street Market and part of Cleveland Street will be closed down

                     Admission: Free

                     Expected Attendance: Approximately 800-1,200

                     Features: live entertainment, including a mariachi band, a DJ, and performers such as                   balloon artists, caricature artists, and face painters. Additionally, a variety of food vendors and local businesses will have the opportunity to engage with attendees, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.

 

The Cleveland Street Market: Cinco de Mayo event is a community-driven celebration aimed at activating Downtown Clearwater, bringing residents and visitors together to experience local culture, food, and entertainment. This event will serve as a platform for local business owners and vendors to showcase their offerings, fostering economic activity and strengthening the local business community.

Cleveland Street Market has submitted a budget totaling $30,000 and requested a funding in the amount of $24,000 to cover expenses for marketing, entertainment, insurance and city fees. The applicant contribution is $6,000

City fees for the event is estimated at $6,325.00 as calculated by Parks and Recreation staff and is responsibility of the applicant to pay.

DDB Grant Request:
Under Section 3 of the DDB Grant Request Policy, grants can be used to fund expenses related to marketing, entertainment, insurance, and city fees. Staff recommends awarding $24,000 to Cleveland Street Market to cover DDB eligible expense for Cinco de Mayo.
