Select and Approve Final Artwork Design for New City Hall Staircase

Body

SUMMARY:

As part of the public art program for the new City Hall, the Public Art & Design Board reviewed via email design concepts submitted by three selected artists for the staircase art installation. Board members were asked to rank their first and second choice from the proposed designs.

Based on the rankings submitted by the Public Art & Design Board, the two highest-scoring designs were:

                     Artist 1 - Option 1

                     Artist 2 - Option 1

Artist 1 - Option 1 received the highest overall ranking with three first-place votes and one second-place vote. Artist 2 - Option 1 received the second-highest ranking with two first-place votes and two second-place votes.

To provide additional input, future City Hall staff were also invited to participate in preference survey. Their responses closely mirrored those of the Public Art & Design Board. Artist 1 - Option 1 was the clear favorite, receiving six first-place votes and one second-place vote. While Artist 2's submissions also received positive feedback, staff respondents showed a slight preference for Artist 2 - Design 2 over Design 1.

A summary of all voting results is included in the attached ranking chart for the Board's review.

Staff is requesting that the Public Art & Design Board discuss the results and approve one final design for the City Hall Staircase Art Installation so the selected artist may proceed with final design development and fabrication.
