Body
SUMMARY:
Since 1970, the City of Clearwater has operated a centrally-located solid waste transfer station.  This facility is used by department route trucks to increase efficiency, by allowing the trucks to dump quickly and return to route collection.
At the time of its construction, the Transfer Station facility was projected to last for twenty years and handle up to 400 tons of waste weekly.  Currently the facility is forty-four years old and is depended upon to handle an average of 340 tons of waste daily.  The facility's age, increased tonnage, increased maintenance requirements, and deterioration of the building and its foundation necessitates that a new facility be constructed.
After preliminary designs and surveys are completed, the department will present to Council a total cost for the project. The total cost of the project is expected to be in the range of $18 million to $20 million.
