Expansion of the Business Spotlight Program to Include North Greenwood
Body
SUMMARY:
The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) proposes expanding the Business Spotlight Program to include the North Greenwood Redevelopment Area, while continuing its presence in the Downtown Clearwater Redevelopment Area. This expanded approach will allow the CRA to celebrate and promote outstanding businesses across both redevelopment areas.
The Business Spotlight Program will highlight exceptional businesses throughout the year. Beginning in January 2026, a new business will be featured in select months, showcasing its unique contributions to the community-ranging from essential local services to vibrant retail and dining experiences. Businesses are selected based on their community involvement, dedication, and positive impact on the local economy and culture.
In alignment with the 2018 Clearwater Downtown Redevelopment Plan and the 2023 North Greenwood Community Redevelopment Area Plan, the program provides participating businesses with targeted marketing and promotional support. It plays a key role in uplifting local entrepreneurs, strengthening neighborhood identity, and supporting inclusive economic growth.
As the program expands, the CRA will implement the following enhancements:
• Geographic Expansion: The program will now include businesses in the North Greenwood Redevelopment Area, in addition to Downtown Clearwater.
• Legacy Spotlight Category: A new recognition tier for businesses with a continuous presence of 10 years or more in either redevelopment area. This honors businesses for their:
o Long-term commitment to the community
o Resilience and sustainability
o Contributions to the area's economic and cultural identity
Expanding the Business Spotlight program represents an important opportunity to deepen the CRA’s impact by fostering community pride, supporting both long-standing and emerging businesses, and encouraging inclusive economic development across Clearwater’s redevelopment areas.
STRATEGIC PRIORITY:
2.1 Strengthen public-private initiatives that attract, develop, and retain diversified business sector.
3.1 Support neighborhood identity through services and programs that empower community pride and belonging.
