Discuss Beach Walk 3D Art Pieces

Body

SUMMARY:

The Parks and Recreation Department has reached out regarding newly constructed concrete pad spaces along the Clearwater Beach Walk that will accommodate bike racks and water fountains. Currently, three of these installation sites have been completed, with a total of nine planned along the full length of the Beach Walk spanning both North and South Beach areas.

The new concrete surfaces will not match the existing walkway, so Parks staff inquired about incorporating art to enhance visual cohesion and aesthetic appeal. Following discussion, staff proposed exploring a more dynamic 3D artistic approach which could also act as a photo opportunity on the beach.

Artist Laura Thomas, who recently completed the Marymont mural and specializes in 3D art, mural work, and professional chalk installations, was identified as a strong fit for this concept. Parks staff reviewed and supported the idea of utilizing her expertise to develop a series of 3D designs for these concrete spaces.

Installation is anticipated to take place within the next few months. Staff is requesting Board approval to move forward with the proposed 3D design approach in coordination with the Parks Department.
